Angie Lee Latham Benson, 79, of Madison, Georgia, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on August 30, 1946, in Atlanta, Georgia, to John and Ruby Latham.
Angie lived a life marked by dedication to her family, her work, and her community, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering love.
Angie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur William “Art” Benson, with whom she shared 30 years of marriage, and by her parents, John and Ruby Latham. She is survived by her loving daughter, Jami Benson; her cherished grandson, Nathan, who was the light of her later years; her sister-in-law Cathy; nieces Melissa and Michelle; nephews Keith and Danny, all of Florida; and numerous cousins from Conyers. Angie was overjoyed to meet her first and only grandson in January 2026, a moment that brought her immense happiness and pride.
Angie began her professional career as an administrative secretary with the Atlanta division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), where she met her husband, Arthur Benson. After their marriage, the couple shared a devoted life together until his passing in 2007. Following her time with ATF, Angie moved to Lilburn, Georgia, where she began a career in real estate with her late uncle Donald R.
Lewis Realty. In 1997, she and her family relocated to Madison, Georgia, where they established a horse farm. Angie deeply enjoyed horseback riding and spending time outdoors, finding peace and joy in nature and farm life.
Angie joined the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office as an administrative secretary. The Sheriff’s Office quickly became her second family, and Sheriff Markley was like a son to her. Angie was the heart of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.
Her professionalism, compassion, and steady presence left a lasting impact on deputies, staff, and the community she served. She was known for her warm smile, her willingness to help, and her genuine care for others. To many, she was not just a coworker, but a trusted friend, mentor, and beloved member of the Sheriff’s Office family.
Angie will be remembered for her quiet strength, her servant’s heart, and the deep love she gave so freely to her family and friends.
She believed in lifting others up, celebrating their joys, and standing beside them in difficult times.
Her influence reached far beyond her work and into the hearts of all who knew her.
It has been said that the true measure of a person’s life is found in the memories they leave behind and the lives they touch.
By that measure, Angie Benson lived an extraordinary life. Her memory will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her, and her legacy of kindness, devotion, and service will never be forgotten.
