Suspects flee Madison Police after wreck

Sgt. Jeremy Hoffman of the Madison Police Department was involved in a brief vehicle pursuit on Aug. 16, but the black sedan he had been chasing wrecked. The two front-seat passengers reportedly fled on foot.

According to the report, Hoffman was patrolling First Street when he observed a black sedan rapidly accelerating away from him on West Jefferson Street.

When Hoffman got close to the sedan, he ran a check on it and learned the vehicle did not have insurance.

According to Hoffman, the driver passed vehicles on the right using parking spaces on Main Street before heading north on Highway 83.

When Hoffman activated his emergency equipment, the vehicle increased its speed until Hoffman made contact with the sedan again and found it wrecked at the intersection of Garnett Street.

Hoffman saw both the front seat passengers fleeing the area. The two passengers in the back seat were detained, but neither would reveal the identity of the two who fled, claiming they had gotten a ride from people they did not know.

Officer Blake Rowe performed a vehicle inventory and found a Taurus G2 9mm handgun with an extended magazine and a bullet in the chamber.

The weapon and ammunition were placed into evidence.
