Smith Communications receives 21 GPA awards

Awards were presented June 20 during the Georgia Press Association (GPA) convention at Jekyll Island to celebrate outstanding achievements in community journalism.In this year’s editorial contest, 482 awards were presented in 42 categories to 74 newspapers from 2,213 total entries.

Carmichael Commons cuts ribbon for townhome development

Parallel Housing Inc. and Woda Cooper Companies Inc. held the grand opening for Carmichael Commons of Madison on June 18, accompanied by a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The development, which cost $18.2 million, is located at 1202 Currybury Dr. and features 60 townhomes.

Rutledge man arrested on assault charges

Jonathan Douglas Echols, 42, of Rutledge, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, battery on a pregnant female, and battery under the family violence statute after an incident that occurred on June 22 on Estes Road.

Morgan County Board of Commissioners adopt FY26 budget

During its meeting on Tuesday, the Morgan County Board of Commissioners approved the final FY26 general fund budget of roughly $30.77 million. The entire budget, including capital project and special revenue funds, amounts to about $49.63 million.
