Young Harris Watersports & RV opens at Lake Oconee

Wielding a pair of giant, ceremonial scissors and surrounded by eager employees, company owner Lance Markham snipped through a big, green ribbon this past Friday as Young Harris Watersports & RV center celebrated officially opening for business less than a month earlier.

Piedmont Water treatment plant tests begin

Piedmont Water has begun a 30-day testing period of its new water treatment plant, located off Kings Way in Reynolds Lake Oconee. The Georgia Environmental Protection Division of the Department of Natural Resources says the utility started taking daily tests of the facility’s output on June 8.

Dubose hangs himself in prison; GBI investigates

Ricky Dubose, who was sentenced to death in Putnam County Superior Court on June 16, ended up spending only 10 days on death row. Dubose apparently hanged himself to death in his cell on Sunday, June 26, according to authorities.

Report: Possible Sasquatch sighting in Morgan County

According to the Expedition: Bigfoot Facebook page, a museum devoted to the creature in North Georgia, there has recently been a Sasquatch sighting in Morgan County.  And no, the page isn’t talking about the rusty, metal Sasquatch display in the pasture at the corner adjacent to Sandy Creek Rd.

Newspapers, Lakelife earn awards from Georgia Press

Lake Oconee News was awarded for its news coverage in the Better Newspaper Contest, which is coordinated by the Georgia Press Association. Phillip B. Hubbard won a first-place award for Sports Feature Story while Lance McCurley took second place in the same category.
