Madison council approves permit for apartment house

The Madison City Council approved a conditional use permit at its June 12 meeting that will allow a local developer to construct an apartment house. Zachary Williams, the owner of Z. Williams Development Company, plans to construct a single apartment building containing four apartment units.

Madison begins budget process; manager urges restraint

The Madison City Council began its month-long process of hammering out a budget for the upcoming year on May 26, and the new Madison City Manager John Klimm is adamant the city needs to reign in some of its spending and closely examine money it does spend.

Man shot, killed at gas station; suspect turns himself in

An Eatonton man was shot at the Shell Food Mart Sunday afternoon and later died at the hospitals, authorities say. The alleged shooter was in custody approximately 24 hours later. Putnam County Coroner Hollis Harrison identified the victim as Frederick Scott Jr., 32, of Chase Circle, Eatonton.

LOA board of governors addresses changes, challenges

Monday night’s meeting of the Lake Oconee Board of Governors was Dr. Otho Tucker’s last as Chief Executive Officer of Greene County’s only charter school. Tucker has been CEO since the school started 16 years ago. He announced last year he would step down at the end of this school year.
