Fleeing suspect shoots himself at conclusion of chase

Greene County deputies and Greensboro police officers assisted the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office with a police pursuit on Sept. 23 and helped bring an end to the chase, but the suspect shot himself in the head before he could be taken into custody.

Veterans win fishing tournament

Wild Jaeger Veteran Adventures (WJVA) held its second-annual fishing tournament hosted by Georgia Bass Trails and launched from Suger Creek Marina on Lake Oconee on Sept. 23. The weigh-in was once again supervised by Mike Tarrer of Georgia Bass Trails.

Courthouse speculation continues

An old brick courthouse in operation since 1849 stands in the center of Greensboro and holds abundant history and lore for the area as the main judicial center for Greene County. The oldest standing courthouse of Greek-Revival style in the state houses Superior Court and Magistrate Court.
