Morgan County High School celebrates 244 graduates

MORGAN COUNTY

Morgan County High School held its graduation ceremony for the senior class on May 22 in the school’s competition gym.

The 244 graduating seniors walked across the stage on the rainy Friday evening, with family and friends in attendance to cheer them on.

The ceremony was initially supposed to take place on the school’s football field at Bill Corry Stadium. Due to inclement weather, the ceremony was moved inside the gym a few hours before the 8 p.m. start time.

Before students walked across the stage, multiple speakers addressed the graduating class, including Valedictorian Catie Malcome, Salutatorian Justin Bailey, and MCHS Principal Dr. Melanie Sigler.

Malcome, who is set to attend the University of Georgia in the fall, addressed her classmates and the audience, noting that she is “thankful for all the people who helped her reach this point.”

“Making it to graduation with all of the overwhelming distractions of the modern age is a miracle in itself that you should be proud of,” Malcolme said. “You’re nearing the end of your journey, where that ache in your life finally catches up to you, and when you find rocks sticking to your heels, you need to keep pushing on. It doesn’t matter if you’re walking, jogging, or running; the reward is worth it.”

Malcome told her classmates they should “be proud of who they are now” and of what lies ahead.

“I hope you remember the many miles you crossed to be here today,” Malcom said. “Congratulations, Morgan County graduates. You’ve made it out of the woods.”

Bailey, who will attend Mississippi State University in the fall, also made remarks during the evening ceremony. He emphasized to his classmates the importance of thanking the school’s staff for helping them reach the milestone.

“This is a truly special community that has provided the foundation to allow us to go out and pursue our dreams,” Bailey said. “We still have our entire lives filled with unknown paths ahead of us, but what I do know is that the possibilities are endless.”

In his closing statement, Bailey noted the school system provided graduates with numerous opportunities to succeed.

“Morgan County has provided us with tons of connections, experiences, and dreams to strive for,” Bailey said. “Because we have been a part of ‘One Morgan,’ we can learn the spirit of this community and the lessons we have learned, for every future event. I wish you all luck, Class of 2026. This is a pivotal day in your studies.”

After the two students concluded their speeches, Sigler addressed attendees, calling the occasion “a celebration of achievement, perseverance, growth, and possibility.”

“This is a night you have dreamed of for years, a night your families have prayed for, and sacrificed for, and supported you through every step of the way,” Sigler said. “This year, our theme at Morgan County High School is simple but powerful: ‘All in.’ Being all in is more than a slogan. It’s a mindset.”

In explaining the school’s theme for the 2025-26 school year, Sigler noted it meant giving “everything you have” at all times and continuing to show up.

“It means committing yourself fully to your goals, to your teammates, to your classmates, to your school, and to your future,” Sigler said. “You were all in during late nights, studying for exams, and finishing assignments; on the practice field, the court, the stage, and in competition. You were all in serving your community, supporting one another, and representing Morgan County with pride.”

To close her statement, Sigler emphasized that the students’ graduation recognizes both their accomplishments and the challenges they faced throughout their high school careers. She explained to them that they continued to show their efforts throughout the challenges they faced.

“The people who change the world are rarely the most talented in the room. They are the ones who commit fully, the ones who care deeply, the ones who refuse to quit,” Sigler said. “Tonight, you leave Morgan County High School with diplomas in your hands, memories in your hearts, and unlimited potential in front of you.

"While your time here may be ending, your story is only beginning. So go forth confidently, lead courageously, serve faithfully, and dream boldly.”
