MORGAN COUNTY

Morgan County Charter Schools recently announced the appointment of Dr. Wesley Cooper as the next principal of Morgan County Elementary School, effective at the end of the 2025-26 school year.

Cooper currently serves as the assistant principal at MCES and the school district’s K-12 math specialist.

According to a recent press release, Cooper was recognized as the 2026 National Outstanding Assistant Principal by the National Association of Elementary School Principals.

On a statewide basis, he was recognized with multiple honors, including the 2025 Georgia Department of Education Mathematical Mindset Award, the Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics Bill E. Bompart Award, and the Georgia Association for Gifted Children Leadership Award.

“Dr. Cooper is a dedicated leader who cares deeply about our students, staff, and community,” said Dr. Susan Stancil, superintendent of Morgan County Charter Schools. “Because of the relationships he has built and his commitment to this school, we are confident he will continue the great work already taking place at Morgan County Elementary.”

Before his position as the MCES assistant principal, Cooper worked as a teacher and academic coach at Morgan County Middle School, where he “led initiatives related to MTSS implementation, instructional coaching, and school improvement planning.” Cooper also worked on “educational initiatives” through the Georgia Department of Education as a member of the Gifted Advisory Council.

The report also noted that Cooper was involved in developing project- based learning units and resources currently used in classrooms across Georgia.

Cooper’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics from the University of Georgia, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Augusta University, and a Doctorate of Education and Specialist of Education in Secondary and Middle-Grades Mathematics from Kennesaw State University.

Cooper shared a statement on his recent appointment as MCES principal, noting that he is “grateful and excited” to take on the new position for the school.

“It is an honor to lead a school that means so much to our students, families, staff, and community,” he said. “I look forward to building on the strong foundation already in place as we continue helping every student learn, grow, and succeed.”
