‘Dogs rack up All-Region honors

After its best season since 1962, Morgan County football racked up postseason All-Region 4-AA honors.Several players were named to the All-Region first team, and four were on the honorable mention list.Senior wide receiver Jaylen Elder highlighted the postseason award list for the Dogs.

Morgan County’s season came to an end last week in the Class AA quarterfinals with a 49-40 loss to Rockmart.The Yellow Jackets trailed at halftime but made adjustments and played better in the final two quarters.

Morgan County senior tailback Jasper Cason came up big for his team in last Friday’s second-round playoff game against Sumter County.Cason, who transferred in from Camden County during the offseason, scored the game’s go-ahead touchdown via the ground with just over a minute left.

‘Dogs draw battle-tested East Jackson in first round

After a two-week hiatus, Morgan County will host East Jackson in the first round of the Class AA state playoffs.In the 32-team bracket, the Dogs (9-1) are the No. 8 seed, and their opponent is the No. 25 seed.

Callaway defeated Morgan County in a contested top-10 matchup this past Friday to capture the Region 4-2A title.The Cavaliers held on late to win 33-26 at Callaway Stadium, while the Dogs suffered their first loss of the year.It was an exciting first half.

Dogs pound Pike, prep for potential perfect record

Morgan County will play for the region title and an undefeated season this Friday at Callaway after posting a dominating win over Pike County last week.The No. 2 Dogs pounded Pike County 41-5, thanks to a balanced offensive and defensive attack, which didn’t give up a touchdown.

Elder has career day as Dogs down Jackson

It was the Jaylen Elder show this past week for Morgan County on Senior Night.Elder helped the Dogs defeat region foe Jackson 36-7, catching a career-high 12 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns. He averaged 21.7 yards per reception and had a long catch of 86 yards.
