Outdoors: A hero named ‘Daddy’

“Hero.” Fishing and life have allowed me to meet several people who truly fill this role, but people use this word way too much these days, in my opinion. The signs, the hashtags, whatever. I get it, we all want to honor people. However, I think few understand the meaning of this word.

Outdoors: Spotted Bass fishing

One of the things I truly enjoy is fishing for spotted bass. I love the fish! They are tough fighters, aggressive eaters, and they love to hit topwater! With that combination they make themselves far more appealing to me, and many like me, than any other freshwater fish. A few weeks back Capt.

OUTDOORS: A fluke catch

A few weeks ago, my buddy, Kevin Underwood, told me to come on up to Lanier and let’s go fishing. That’s a suggestion that never falls on deaf ears with me. So, the day after the hurricane cleared the Carolinas I was there. We left out mid-morning and fished through ‘til late afternoon.

OUTDOORS: Haunted lake fishing

According to popular legend and the “experts” at the History Channel, Lake Lanier is haunted. Now, I’ve only fished it a few times, but all I’ve ever found is hungry spotted bass, big stripers, and a ton of fun! If that is haunted… Then I’m good with it!

OUTDOORS: Fishing trips

At the age of six years old, I remember my dad picking me up early from school one day and taking me to Florida. We went down to St. Marks, Florida and Shell Island Fish Camp. Now, this was in the very early 80s and one of the Jaws sequels had just come out.
