STMA to host traveling State Art Collection

Museum hosts annual Founder’s Day event

The Steffen Thomas Museum of Art hosted its annual Founder’s Day event Sunday evening at its gallery in rural Buckhead.

Steffen Thomas Museum presents all-new exhibit

After lifelong art collectors Marjorie and Richard Lowrance bequeathed their extensive Steffen Thomas art collection to the Steffen Thomas Museum of Art (STMA) in Buckhead, it officially became part of the museum’s permanent collection two years ago.
STMA Executive Committee President Don Roman with Lisa Thomas Conner presented “House by Pond,” a Steffen Thomas original drawing, to Board Treasurer Bob Cuellar (center), whose term recently expired. Board VP Brian Titus also has timed out from STMA’s board, but he was not present at the Aug. 19 meeting.

The Steffen Thomas Museum of Art in rural Buckhead celebrated its Founder’s Day on July 1, honoring the artist’s late wife and lifelong muse, Sara Douglass Thomas.

“Art is dynamite.” Those were the first words to flash across the screen last Thursday night at The Plaza Arts Center in Eatonton, to start a one-time presentation of “Rock & Chisel,” a bio-documentary of famed sculptor and painter Steffen Thomas.

The Steffen Thomas Museum of Art (STMA) in Buckhead is holding an opening reception on Nov. 12, 4-6 p.m., for a new display, Mentor and Protégé: Jack Stewart and Steffen Thomas. The showing will remain in place until Jan. 28, next year.
