Last week, an interesting, but important piece of news came across social media feeds. It was about Major League Baseball’s (MLB’s) international darling, Shohei Ohtani, being involved in a gambling scandal.

With the brackets set, it’s officially the best part of the year as March Madness begins later this week. I am excited for both the NCAA men’s and women’s tournaments since there are so many storylines to follow.

Being an avid sports fan, when your favorite team loses, there always comes a sense of sadness or disappointment. That’s just part of the fun, and while the pain might sting, it comes with the territory.

Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett is living the dream. I envy him because he accomplished something that hadn’t occurred in a long time, which was helping bring a national title back to Athens.

Last week I wrote about football, so now I will write about local softball and volleyball programs beginning their respective seasons. Football is obviously king; however, there are some great softball and volleyball programs in Lake Country.

It’s been a long summer of attending 7-on-7 and padded camps, but now, as of this Friday, high school football in the state of Georgia is officially back. There were some scrimmages last week, but I’ve had Friday, Aug.

I figured I would try this column thing out on a weekly basis from now on. My goal is to try and relate it back to sports in the Lake Country area, or things happening in the sports world.
