This time of year means two things when it comes to local high school seniors. The first is that it is time for their graduation ceremonies and family celebrations. The second is that it is the time of year for Lake Oconee Elks Lodge No. 2849 to formally recognize the winners of their various Elks scholarships and awards.

Elks announce Most Valuable Student scholarships

School may have just started, but it is already time for high school seniors to apply for college scholarships, and Lake Oconee Elks Lodge No. 2849 has announced the Elks National Foundation has kicked off its 2023 Most Valuable Student (MVS) scholarship contest.

Lake Oconee Elks Lodge No. 2849, represented by Bill Lewis (left), delivered 150 backpacks July 12, to M. E. Lewis Elementary School in Hancock County. School principal Anton Anthony was pleased to receive the packs filled with paper, folders, colored pencils, markers, crayons, pens, pencils, erasers, glue sticks, rulers and other school supplies. The lodge used the Beacon and Spotlight Grants from the Grand Lodge for this project. CONTRIBUTED
