Hailey Heinen, a high school senior at Lake Oconee Academy, has been named a 2023 PAGE STAR Student Region Winner for PAGE STAR Region 4. The announcement was made on Jan. 19 by Patricia Randolph at the local event luncheon sponsored by Greene County Rotary Club. Heinen, selected Amy Reber, a music teacher at Lake Oconee Academy, as her STAR teacher.

Over the weekend, the Lake Oconee Academy girls’ basketball team dropped its first region game of the season to the Towns County Lady Indians. The Saturday afternoon contest was close through all four quarters, but the Lady Titans were eventually defeated 52-49 in Hiawassee.

The Greene County Board of Education unanimously voted on Jan. 19 to approve a settlement with Lake Oconee Academy that ends the charter school’s 29-month-old lawsuit against the BOE.

When looking at the school’s basketball program as a whole, Lake Oconee Academy has seen great development at every level since starting in 2016. Most importantly, the Titans’ coaching staff has started to play a role in player development at the middle school level.

The Lake Oconee Academy boys’ basketball team has gotten hot over the holidays after winning two of its last four regular season games to end the year.

After going undefeated the entire 2021-22 season, the Lake Oconee Academy girl’s basketball team finally tasted defeat last Saturday morning at Grayson High School. The Lady Titans tipped off against the North Paulding Wolfpack in the first game of a Sandy Spiel Shootout 42-32.

Lake Oconee Academy’s golf programs have produced multiple athletes that have gone on to play at the next level, and one of the most recent is Maddox Cantrell. The Titan senior will be taking his talents to Covenant College after verbally committing a few weeks ago, and he couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity.

Monday was day 810 in the lawsuit by Lake Oconee Academy against the Greene County Board of Education over the amount of money LOA receives per student enrolled at the charter school.
