When climbing a mountain, success is measured in small steps. Such is the challenge that has faced Georgia schools for years. Once famously near the bottom of the list of states for education, Georgia ranked 30th in last year’s U.S. News and World Report K-12 school survey.

OPINION: LOA is committed to improving education

Dear editor: Recently, there were letters published in the Lake Oconee News referencing the LOA-BOE lawsuit. I disagree with the assertions in the letters. LOA has tried to work on a solution to the issues in the lawsuit but has not been able to come to an agreement with the District.

BOE told ’We will fight for our school in Union Point’

Jill Rhodes was one of two passionate speakers to challenge the Greene County Board of Education at its June 16 meeting. “I am coming here today to stand up for the city of Union Point, for the school we have in Union Point,” Rhodes told board members.
While the LOA Board was in a closed, executive session, the audience became an instant open, public chat session with members of the BOE about education issues facing the county. LOA v. BOE lawsuit - deal or no deal?

At a special called meeting on Tuesday night, the Lake Oconee Academy Board of Governors voted to approve a settlement offer to be sent to the Greene County Board of Education. Upon approval by both boards, LOA would end its two yearlong lawsuit over funding against the BOE.

GCDA steps back from LOA-BOE talks, focuses on development

The Greene County Development Authority is stepping back from its recent involvement in the lawsuit between the Greene County Board of Education and Lake Oconee Academy.
