Florida State freshman defensive lineman Kevin Wynn said on Wednesday, January 14, that he will remain with the Seminoles after he announced earlier this month that he planned to enter the transfer portal.
The former Greene County standout said on his personal X account that he is returning.
“I will be remaining at FSU. Go ‘Noles,” Wynn stated.
Wynn appeared in only four games as a true freshman at Florida State in 2025 because of injury. The 6-foot-2, 343-pound defensive tackle didn’t record any stats this past season and took a redshirt year.
Before the season, FSU defensive coordinator Tony White spoke highly of Wynn.
“He’s powerful,” White said, via WarChant.com. “He’s very powerful. There’s a difference when they can hit a bag, they can extend, they can peek, and they can see the ball and have a feel for where the ball’s going to go. He’s got that feel in there for where the ball’s going to go.”
In high school, Wynn was one of the top players in the 2025 recruiting class. He was a consensus four-star prospect on all four recruiting sites. Per the Rivals Industry ranking, Wynn was ranked the No. 72 overall player nationally, the No. 9 defensive lineman, and the No. 10 prospect from the Peach State.
Wynn had offers from Georgia, South Carolina, Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, LSU, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, Mississippi State, NC State, North Carolina, Tennessee, USC, FAU, Memphis, and UConn. He committed to FSU on June 21, 2024, and signed with the Seminoles on Dec. 4, 2024.
Georgia and South Carolina pushed hard to flip Wynn at the end of his recruitment, but he remained solid with Florida State. He told the Lake Oconee News after he signed that the staff always “showed him love.”
“Like I’ve said before, FSU has been with me since ninth grade, and they’ve been consistently showing me love. I’ve been showing them love,” Wynn said. “We’ve both been lured to each other. I can see they’re obviously rebuilding, and the process looks great. I want to be a part of that.”
As a high school senior, Wynn totaled 68 tackles and a team-high 27 tackles for loss. He also had seven sacks. Wynn was named the Region 8-Class A Division II Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2022. He totaled 45 tackles — 18 for loss — with four sacks and a forced fumble for Greene County as a sophomore. Wynn also earned All-State honors from the AJC and played in the GACA All-Star game.
Wynn has four years of eligibility remaining and is expected to play a key role on the defensive line in 2026.
