After entering the NCAA transfer portal a few weeks ago, former USC defensive back and Greene County multi-sport star athlete Steve Miller found his new college home on Monday, according to a report by On3.com.
Per a source, he was considering Florida International University, Ball State University, and the University of Connecticut as his next stop. He then chose the Huskies, as they’re coming off a strong 9-4 finish with a bowl berth.
Miller is rated as a three-star prospect by On3.com in its transfer portal rankings. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound safety appeared in only one game for the Trojans at the start of the 2025 regular season against Missouri State.
Miller played only nine snaps and didn’t record a tackle in USC’s 73-13 victory over the Bears on Aug. 30.
The Greensboro native didn’t see the field because of the depth at the safety position for the Trojans, so he elected to transfer. He will play for Connecticut, which recently hired new head coach Jason Candle last month.
Candle was previously at Toledo for the last 10 seasons, replacing former head coach Jim Mora, who took the vacant head coaching position at Colorado State. He has a total record of 81-44 in his 10 seasons as a head coach.
As a three-star prospect in high school, Miller initially committed to Mississippi State before flipping his pledge to USC. He was also heavily pursued by South Carolina, Kansas, and several other Power Four programs.
Miller will have a chance to make an impact for the Huskies right away and compete for a starting job.
