The Morgan County football program couldn’t have asked for a better start to its 2022 season.
Currently, the Bulldogs are undefeated and have won both of their games by an average of three touchdowns. The offense is averaging around six touchdowns per game, while the defense is allowing just 20 points per contest.
Senior running back Jacere Cooper has shown he is one of the premier pieces on the Bulldogs’ offense. Last week against Greene County, Cooper rushed for 148 yards and four touchdowns. This came after he found the end zone once against Social Circle in Week 1.
TJ Thompson is also instrumental in Morgan County’s offensive success. His height and speed proved to be hard for defenders to cover downfield. He had multiple high-point catches against the Tigers last week and scored a touchdown and a two-point conversion along with two scores against the Redskins the week prior.
Defensively, the Bulldogs have been able to fly to the ball.
Reggie Ross has played well in the secondary two weeks in. Against Greene County, Ross intercepted Tigers’ quarterback Steve Miller in the second half to give him his first takeaway of the season.
Ross and the rest of the Bulldogs’ secondary is paired with a big, dominant front seven.
Players like defensive end Antavious Elder and outside linebacker Draco Frazzitta have shown their ability to get into the backfield and disrupt opposing offenses.
Bulldogs’ second-year head coach Clint Jenkins hopes his team can continue to produce similar results heading into this Friday’s contest against the Jasper County Hurricanes.
“I’ve started to dive into [Jasper’s] film a little bit, and we kind of know their scores and who they’ve played,” Jenkins said.
“To be honest with you, it sounds like a cliché, but it’s more about us and our execution and our attitude. We’ll be schemed up and ready to go against Jasper.” The Bulldogs are 30-4-1 all-time against the Hurricanes and have won 14 of their last 15.
Heading into this Friday, Jenkins believes the team will keep focusing on themselves and how to continue to push through challenges that come their way.
“We talked a lot during the summer and over the offseason on how we’re going to handle adversity,” Jenkins said. “You know, adversity is going to come, so are we going to go back to the bad body language and blame our teammates, or are we going to pull together and fight?”
After going 0-10 last season, the Hurricanes have already found more success in 2022 with first-year head coach Ashley Henderson.
Jasper County is 1-1 under Henderson and is coming off an 18-6 win over Pike County last week.
Ultimately, the Bulldogs feel confident heading back to Bill Corry Stadium for their second week in a row.
