Michael Albert “Mike” Malone

Michael Albert “Mike” Malone, age 80, of Greensboro, GA, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024, following a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. 

Born in Paris, IL, on November 23, 1943, he was the son of the late Albert Henry “Bus” Malone and Dorothy Headley Malone Meyers. He was also predeceased by his sister, Donna Malone Caldwell. Following graduation from Edgewater High School in Orlando, FL, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served honorably from 1963 to 1967. 

Upon his discharge from the Air Force, he enrolled at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL, and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. He was a proud member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of SAE with his fraternity brothers. On March 1, 1986, he married the love of his life, the former Donna Freeman, in Atlanta, GA. Following a successful career with AT&T, he retired as a Sales and Advertising Executive. Mike and Donna moved from Lilburn, GA, to Lake Oconee in 1999, enjoying many years of lake living. 

Upon moving to Greene County, Mike became very involved in the downtown Greensboro business community and served as the President of the Downtown Business Association for several years.

 In 2007, he was appointed as the Greene County Elections Superintendent and served until his retirement in 2016. Prior to his retirement, former Secretary of State Brian Kemp awarded him an Outstanding Georgia Citizen award for his dedication and leadership as Elections Superintendent.

Mike was a Walker United Methodist Church member, serving as a past Lay Leader and past President of the Walker Men’s Club.

In addition to his wife, Donna Malone of Greensboro, GA, survivors include his son, Shawn Bus Malone of Woodstock, GA and his daughter Delaney and son, Patrick Albert Malone (Jennifer) of Milledgeville, GA and children Marissa, Addison and Parker of Union Point, GA . Mike is also survived by his beloved cat, Gracie and a number of very special nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Memorial Services will be held, Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Walker United Methodist Church, 2730 Walker Church Road, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev.

David Collins and Rev. John Pike officiated. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 19, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home.
