Johnny Melvin Johnson

Johnny Melvin Johnson of Union Point, GA, died Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at his residence with his loved ones. He was 89.

A lifelong resident of Greene County he was born in Union Point on January 18, 1934, to the late Robert Evans Johnson and Sallie Mae Cato Johnson.

He grew up in Union Point and graduated from Union Point High School. He had a successful career at Chipman Union where he worked for thirty-nine years as their computer operator.

On January 30, 1954, he married the former Jeanett Mize to whom he had been married for sixty-nine years at the time of his death. He was a member of Wesley Chapel Wesleyan Church. Other than his enjoyment of computers and woodworking, he was a die-hard Georgia football fan. His greatest enjoyment came when he was surrounded by family, but he also enjoyed his quiet time.

In addition to his wife, Jeanett Johnson of Union Point, GA, he is survived by his daughter, Teresa Johnson Thompson (James); grandchildren: Christi and her children Angel and Samantha; John and his children Clayton, Sydney, and Caiden, Debbie and her children Whitney, Kayla, Tyler and Emily and Patti her husband Tommy Lee and their children Kaitlyn, Riley, Kaylei, Cason, and Dylan; and sister-in-law, Sue Johnson of Thomasville, GA; a number of other relatives, and many friends. Johnny was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Elizabeth Beal; son-in-law, Billy Beal; grandson-in-law, Mike Christopher, and brothers, Steve, Bob, and Charles Johnson.

Funeral services were held, Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery, Rhodes Street, Union Point, GA 30669 with Rev. Josh Lindsey officiating. Pallbearers were Ronnie Boggs, Donald Ogle, Tommy Cummings, Mike Watts, Millard Mize and Lynn Gibson. Callaway Funeral Home, 208 N.
