Charles Wayne Akins, 71, of Greensboro, Georgia, passed away Friday, April 15, 2022.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 11 a.m. at McCommons Chapel, 109 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Mike Pritchett officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Elbert “Rapp” Goss, Pat Branyan, Russell Leach, Dakota Ballard, Tim Branyan, Keith Yearwood, Vick Ward, John Wood and Clay Everett. Honorary pallbearers were Ceils Merritt, Dink Dominy, Loren Leach and Bill Thomas.
Born April 4, 1951 he was the son of the late William Carrol “Buck” Akins and Cassie Lee Taylor Akins. He attended Greene County High School and on April 1, 1972 he married the former Diane Tarpley of Greensboro, GA. Wayne was the owner and operator of Akins Logging. One of the things he enjoyed most was working in his shop. His family meant so much to him and he doted on his granddaughter Emma. Among other things, they enjoyed watching Saturday morning westerns together. Preceding him in death were his brothers, Joseph L. Akins, William “Billy” Akins and Byron Akins.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Diane Tarpley Akins of Greensboro, GA; daughter, Holley Cooper and husband Jay of Greensboro, GA; granddaughter, Emma Rose Cooper; sister-in-law, June Akins; and many other relatives and friends.
