Greene boys, girls earn All-Region recognition

Greene County’s basketball teams had several players named to the All-Region team following the 2024-25 season.

The Tigers dominated the All-Region honors, as head coach Mark Wright and six players garnered postseason accomplishments. The Lady Tigers also had two players represent them on the All-Region team.

Wright and senior Jesse Broadus distinguished themselves among the many achievements of Greene’s boys. Wright was voted Region Coach of the Year, while Broadus received the Region Player of the Year award.

Wright wanted to talk about his players instead of himself. He began with Broadus, whom he said deserved recognition.

“Sometimes it’s just me, him, and one of the other coaches a majority of the time, but he just had the tenacity to get better,” Wright said. “Basketball development is about discipline and consistency. So, if you’re disciplined in your actions, you’re consistent with the right workouts, the proper regimen, and the right mindset. You’ll see the results you want, and Jesse did. He really reaped the benefits of his hard work in the end.”

Senior Laryous Burt and sophomore Braylen Hurt were the Tigers who made the All-Region team.

Wright said Burt was a key contributor as a senior and that Hurt’s potential is limitless next season.

“Laryous missed the Player of the Year by two votes last year. He was on the All-Region team this year and was also an All-State player,” Wright said. “Braylen will do wonderful things moving forward because he’s the type of guy who can put up 28 or 29 points in the blink of an eye. He’s a sophomore and is not done growing.”

Senior Ryder Eschbach and sophomore Ge’Corey Brown were both named to the All-Offensive team. Senior Ivan Porter was named to the All-Defensive team. Each contributed in different ways this year for the Tigers.

Wright was proud of Eschbach, Brown, and Porter as well.

Greene’s girls had junior Jessaria Porter selected for the All-Offensive team, and senior Kimora Harper earned a spot on the All-Defensive team. These two were pivotal in helping the Lady Tigers reach the playoffs.

Greene girls head coach Steve Hopper praised his two players who received All-Region honors.

According to Hopper, Porter matured a lot during the season and said she contributed a lot on offense.

“She and I had moments where it seemed like we bucked heads because she felt that I was being really hard on her, but I’m like, ‘If you’re going to be the best player in the school, then you have to be treated like you’re the best player in the school. You want me to treat you like a freshman and baby you and tell you everything’s gonna be okay, then sorry, you’re at the wrong place,’” Hopper said. “But she rose to the occasion."

Hopper preached how vital defense was all season and thought Harper met expectations on that end of the court.

Hopper said the team will miss her next season.

“It’s gonna be really tough losing Kimora,” Hopper admitted. “She was a great player and great defender.”
