Greene County High School has its new head football coach.
The program announced via social media that it has hired Darius Robinson to lead the Tigers into the future. Robinson was previously an assistant at South Georgia powerhouse Valdosta under coach Shelton Felton.
The Lake Oconee News confirmed the hiring with Greene County High School athletic director Chad Smith.
“We are very excited to have coach Darius Robinson join the Tiger community,” Smith said in a statement to the newspaper. “ His experience and background will provide an excellent opportunity for our student-athletes.”
The Lake Oconee News attempted to contact Robinson for comment, but he had not responded by press time.
Robinson has an impressive resume and has been successful coaching on each side of the ball.
Robinson has been an assistant coach and coordinator at various schools in North and South Carolina schools.
From 2020 to 2023, Robinson was the head coach at Jay M. Robinson High School in Concord, North Carolina. He led the Bulldogs to a 25-7 record and three consecutive trips to the postseason before taking another job.
Most recently, Robinson helped Valdosta to a 9-3 overall record and reached the second round of the GHSA Class 6A state playoffs before losing to runner-up Carrollton. He coached the Wildcats’ offense, helping Georgia signee Todd Robinson pass for over 2,220 yards and 22 touchdowns and rush for 538 yards and 11 scores.
A source inside Valdosta’s program told the Lake Oconee News that Shelton didn’t want to lose Robinson from his staff.
“He fought for [Robinson] to stay,” the source said.
Robinson will arrive at Greene County later this month and officially begin his duties as head coach.
