South Carolina man arrested on drug charges

GREENE COUNTY

A Greene County deputy arrested a Columbia, S.C., man on a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute following a traffic stop on I-20 on the morning of Jan. 6.

Derrick Russell Boyles, 41, was a passenger in the vehicle that Lt. Patrick Paquette initially stopped for a possible window tint violation.

According to the report, Paquette pulled over a Toyota Camry near westbound milepost 131.5 and noticed marijuana on the shirt of the front seat passenger.

The window tint tested at 0%, and the driver was asked to exit the vehicle.

She said she had traveled to Atlanta with her boyfriend, who was the passenger in the car. She also told Paquette that Boyles might have a small blunt on him.

When Boyles got out of the vehicle, Paquette asked him to brush the marijuana off his shirt, and Boyles said the residue was from earlier in the day.

Paquette searched the vehicle and found a plastic container in the console containing marijuana.

He also found two bags in the trunk, and one of them contained clothes and four vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana.

Boyles said the driver of the vehicle was not aware of the marijuana. She was released with a warning for the window tint.

Boyles was arrested and transported to the Morgan County jail.

The total amount of marijuana was later determined to be approximately one pound.
