A former Greene County deputy faces multiple charges in the wake of an apparent home invasion and subsequent fight that occurred Sept. 5 in Greensboro.
The GBI is charging Deputy Joshua Wilson, 29, of Winterville, who now works for the Taliaferro County Sheriff’s Office, with a home invasion in the first degree, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, simple battery under the family violence statute, obstructing or hindering a person making an emergency telephone call and criminal damage to property in the second degree.
According to the press release, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI assist with a domestic violence investigation at about 7 a.m. Sept. 5 after the Sheriff’s Office responded to the 1000 block of McInteer Circle.
The preliminary investigation shows that Wilson entered a home and got into a fight with the residents. At the time of the incident, Wilson was off duty. Wilson later turned himself into the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.
Wilson previously worked as a shift sergeant with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and worked part-time for the Sparta Police Department from May 2023 until August of this year.
Wilson announced that he would challenge incumbent Donnie Harrison as an independent in the race for Greene County Sheriff in 2024, but his name did not appear on the ballot due to a shortage of signatures required for independent candidates running for the first time.
This investigation is active and ongoing.
