Following a big 35-34 win over Brentwood Academy last week, Lake Oconee Academy has turned the page to Glenn Hills.
The Titans (4-0) will travel to Augusta for their first road game against the Spartans (0-3).
“We got a big win on Friday night against Brentwood,” LOA head coach Patrick Stewart said. “We’re doing good, but we’re just trying to keep it going.”
LOA has had a historic start to its season, but Stewart wants his team to stay focused.
“We’re 4-0, and I’m really happy for the kids, but we’ve got to keep a 0-0 mindset,” Stewart added. “It’s human nature to be extremely proud of these guys and happy. But also, to jump from average to great, we must compartmentalize it and focus on the task rather than outcomes.”
Stewart believes this Friday’s matchup will be a tough test for his team; however, he wants it to feel like a “normal game.”
“This will be our first road game, so we’ll see how they handle the adversity of being on the road,” he said. “The main thing is we’re trying to keep it as normal as we can from our usual game day activities. The goal is to try and mimic what we do at the home field as much as we can.”
Glenn Hills comes into this game 0-3, losing to Hancock Central, Westside, and Fox Creek.
“Glenn Hills is a good team, but their record doesn’t show it,” Stewart said. “They have a lot of skill guys that can fly around and make plays offensively and defensively, and they look pretty physical from the film.”
Glenn Hills has been held scoreless twice, so the LOA defense has another opportunity to impose its will.
Stewart said the key to winning the game is special teams executing and the defense limiting explosive plays. He added that the team needs to continue to be humble and play with a chip on their shoulder.
“If we can just keep getting better at doing what we do fundamentally, then we’ll be alright,” Stewart said.
LOA will travel to Augusta this Friday to take on Glenn Hills at 7:30 p.m.
