Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger was in Greene County last week for a special award presentation recognizing the Board of Elections and Registration.
Rebecca Anglin, newly appointed director of elections, accepted the coveted EAGLE award, which is given to elections offices that have demonstrated key performance attributes.
The office was recognized for its outstanding work in election security, innovation, accuracy, accessibility, and voter education. Kathleen Mayers was also presented with an “Outstanding Georgia Citizen” award for her time as the former election director.
Raffensperger has supported reforms that foster confidence in Georgia elections, which now require a photo ID and citizen verification. According to Raffensperger, the Heritage Foundation, an organization that works at the Capitol to promote and ensure free elections, has recognized the state.
“The state has been recognized as having the best election integrity measures in the country,” Raffensperger said about the Heritage Foundation’s praise. “It is important to recognize our election offices that go above and beyond with their election duties. Both Kathleen and now Rebecca have become valuable resources to their peers for their fellow election directors.”
Anglin, appointed in December 2023, operates with a budget of $375,000 and manages a department of two part-time employees. She was formerly with Oconee County as an election technician and was then appointed board chair and director of the Oconee County elections.
Anglin then worked for the Secretary of State as an election system specialist and served on an equipment implementation team.
“I have been thrilled with this opportunity to work in Greene County as the elections director,” Anglin said. “I want to thank my predecessors for paving my way. I vow to continue to make Greene County proud and promote transparency, honesty, security, and education. Greene County’s elections will remain fair and accurate.”
KEY ELECTION DATES IN THE COUNTY INCLUDE:
• Applications for absentee ballots may be requested now, with ballots issued Oct. 7
• The registration deadline for the Nov. 5 general election is Oct. 7
• Advance voting will run from Oct. 15 to Nov. 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• All polling locations will be open Nov. 5. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
