The Northeast Georgia Regional Drug Task Force, in cooperation with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Aiken County Sheriff’s Office (South Carolina), Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, Athens-Clarke County Police Department, Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s Office, and the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, recently concluded a lengthy operation into methamphetamine trafficking in the Athens area.
According to a press release from the GCSO, the operation culminated with the execution of two search warrants at Athens trailer parks.
The first was executed at the Hallmark Trailer Park on Spring Valley Road near the Athens-Ben Epps Airport; the second was executed at Pinewood Estates on U.S. Highway 29 North near the Markets at Epps Bridge shopping mall.
The investigation led to the seizure of 39 kilograms of methamphetamine with a street value of over $340,000, a Springfield Armory 9mm handgun, and approximately $32,000 in U.S. currency.
The investigation also led to the arrest of six individuals on charges of methamphetamine trafficking, including Bryant McLaughlin of Dillon, S.C., Sammy Fleming of Eastover, S.C., Charles Armstrong of Loganville, David Glaze of Monroe, Edgar Garcia-Hernandez and Jose Macias-Garcia, both of Athens.
