Greene County deputies seize another drone and marijuana

GREENE COUNTY

Yet another case involving drones and drugs is being investigated by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies.

A Loganville man arrested on multiple charges on Oct. 6, 2023, was arrested again on Jan. 17, 2024, under strikingly similar circumstances.

As a result of the most recent arrest, Abdulkair Muhumad Hassan, 32, faces charges of possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, drugs not in original container, possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana, and giving a false name and address to a law enforcement officer.

Deputies also arrested Dayvon Maurice Croocks, 33, on the same charges except the giving a false name to law enforcement charge.

According to reports, Deputy Leosbel Sierra initiated a traffic stop on a gray Toyota Corolla 3980 Highway 77 S. due to a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. Crooks, who was driving, refused to exit the vehicle multiple times until finally complying.

After Sierra explained the reason for the stop, Crooks said multiple times that there was no marijuana in the vehicle.

Hassan, who was inside the Dollar General then walked back to the vehicle.

The deputy recognized Hassan from a previous incident Sierra assisted with in October of 2023 when Hassan was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

During the previous incident, Sgt. Jordan Knowles had arrested Hassan and three others after a traffic stop near Siloam involving a possible window tint violation.

According to the report, a driver and four passengers, including Hassan, were pulled over. Knowles said he could smell the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

Sierra located a clear, plastic bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana in the pants of a passenger identified as Hassan. Knowles and Sierra searched the vehicle and a red and black backpack in the rear seat contained a drone remote control, two drone batteries, and numerous vehicle titles.

They also found a large drone in the trunk, which had black electrical tape on each corner light.

Along the top of the drone were two large bundles of tobacco and marijuana in a white plastic trash bag. They were wrapped in clear plastic wrap with vacuum-sealed bags.

In the first bundle was a large plastic bag with loose tobacco, rolling papers, and four clear plastic, vacuum-sealed bags containing marijuana. The second bundle contained one large package of marijuana, three large packages of loose tobacco, and three pairs of white earbuds, each packaged in clear plastic, vacuum-sealed bags.

The total weight of the marijuana was more than 28 grams, according to the report. Knowles said it was later determined that “Abdulfatah Hassan” was not Hassan’s correct name.

Knowles then went back to the Greene County LEC and learned that his real name was Abdulkadir Hassan and that the other name was his brother’s name.

Sgt. Don Smith later released the phones and the drone to S. A. Tyler Adams with the Georgia Department of Corrections.

Sierra also searched the vehicle involved in the Jan. 17 incident and found a small plastic bag containing approximately three grams of marijuana in the center console in plain sight.

While searching the trunk of the vehicle, Sierra found a DJI Inspire 2 drone, which appeared to have all lights taped and concealed with black electrical tape.

Next to the drone, Sierra found a blue backpack that contained a bundle wrapped in clear and black plastic and a roll of plastic wrapping paper.

The backpack also contained two black drone batteries, a drone controller, and three vacuum-sealed bags containing marijuana. Inside each bag, there were individual smaller bags containing the marijuana, according to the report.

One of the marijuana bags also contained Oxycodone and Percocet. The bundle also contained several greeting cards, which appeared to have an unknown residue sprayed on them, two cigars, and two lighters.

The arrest marked the fourth time in the last four months that a drone and marijuana were seized following a traffic stop.
