Last Friday, Greg Powell, the cafeteria manager at Putnam General Hospital (PGH), created special cupcakes for all the employees in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
PGH honored all who currently fight, have fought, and survived breast cancer, and continues to honor the memory of those who lost the battle with cancer.
The hospital’s “Helping Hands” committee raised $155 to contribute to the campaign to support breast cancer awareness through a bulletin board of ribbons in a PGH hallway. The donation was sent to It's The Journey, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to strengthen Georgia's breast cancer community by focusing on early detection, education, and support services.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is intended to drive awareness of the need for more research about metastatic disease.
Approximately 30% of early-stage breast cancer eventually metastasizes (spreads to other parts of the body).
