Lee announces campaign to keep BOE chairman seat

After recently assuming the position of chairman, Dr. Perry Lee has announced his intentions to seek his first full term as chairman of Greene County’s Board of Education (BOE).

After joining a veteran Board of Education during a tumultuous time in Greene County, and at the height of COVID, Lee looks back on his first term with great pride. Together, the board achieved a plan, design, funding, and community buy-in for a new elementary school through the ESPLOST and bond referendum.

Lee claimed a significant improvement to the Greene County school system under this board’s leadership was open communication between the BOE and community members.

The BOE has broadened contacts with the public by sending out a regular newsletter allowing easy sign-ups for information on the schools’ websites. It also has provided the community 15 minutes during the board meetings for questions and face-to-face conversations with the school board governance team.

Looking ahead, Lee said he wants to focus on improving Greene County’s school system to become the best in the state while keeping the millage rate one of the lowest. Lee applauded his predecessor’s work in this area: “Chairman Lynch set the stage by implementing strong accounting guidelines and practices that we will continue to follow to be wise stewards of the taxpayers’ money.”

Lee graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry with a Doctor of Optometry degree in 1996. He received a Bachelor of Science in Professional Studies from the University of Alabama in 1992. Lee has practiced at Lake Oconee Eye Care since July 2002.
