Rave reviews for ‘The Robber Bridegroom’

The Lake Country Players (LCP) brought to life a hidden theatrical treasure on Aug. 13, with its rendition of “The Robber Bridegroom” at Festival Hall in Greensboro.

Adapted from a novella by esteemed writer Eudora Welty, this raucous and charming tale captured the hearts of local audiences, leaving them stomping their feet and yearning for an encore.

Set in a world where danger and charm collide, “The Robber Bridegroom” follows the story of Jamie Lockhart, a dashing and noble gentleman by day, but by night under his berry stains, he transforms into a daring bandit. When his heart falls prey to the enchanting daughter of a wealthy planter, Lockhart’s internal compass is thrown into turmoil.

The Lake Country Players breathed life into this intriguing narrative, igniting the stage with a unique and imaginative interpretation.

Renowned for its commitment to delivering exceptional performances, LCP resurrected this lesser-known Broadway gem and transported Festival Hall patrons to a world of playful irreverence and captivating antics while paying homage to the charismatic con artists and tricksters of yesteryear.

Following each performance, the cast, ensemble, and musicians were met with thunderous applause and standing ovations.

“The Robber Bridegroom was an action-packed masterpiece and undoubtedly the pinnacle of this year’s local community theater productions,” declared Martha Franks, a devoted theater enthusiast. “The impeccable cast, choreography, and musical talents had us laughing, clapping, and thoroughly entertained throughout. Our gratitude to Mo Brower and the Lake Country Players for gracing our community with such remarkable talent and entertainment.”

Vanessa Corbin, who traveled from Jonesboro to experience the magic, was equally effusive in her praise: “The Robber Bridegroom did not disappoint. The humor was abundant, the vocals were phenomenal, and the choreography seamlessly intertwined with the captivating set pieces. It was an absolute delight, and the journey was worth every mile. I left the show brimming with happiness.”

Under the direction of Charlotte Mosteller and the choreography of Maureen “Mo” Brower and her daughter Jessica Brower, the LCP production seamlessly blended acting, dance, and music into a harmonious symphony of entertainment.

Music Director Donna Valvo and Instrumental Director Tom Shalin, alongside a group of exceptional musicians – including Keiko Ishibashi, Brian Smith, Skip Taylor, Tom Baker, and John Cooper – wove a unique musical tapestry that enriched the narrative and resonated deeply with the audience.

The cast breathed life into their characters, transporting the audience into the heart of the narrative. Tyler Stella and Remi Heide embodied the enigmatic Jamie Lockhart and beautiful Rosamund, while Greg Tantum as Clement Musgrove, Jackie Hill as Salome, Drace Langford as Little Harp, Steve Atchley as Big Harp, Anenaca Simpson as Goat, Dottie Mitchell as Goat’s Mom, Jessi Fite as Airie, and Rusty Faulk as Raven added depth and dimension to the enthralling tale.

Additionally, each member of the ensemble: Michael Alexander, Jessica Brower, Mo Brower, Joshua Black, Lynda Fowler, Art Hargrove, Tracey Pitocchelli, and Isaiah Turner, contributed to the immersive experience that left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who attended.

The production of “The Robber Bridegroom” by LCP was not merely a theatrical accomplishment but a testament to the enduring power of community and shared passion. It exemplified the unwavering determination and collaborative spirit that allowed Mosteller’s and Brower’s long-cherished dreams to materialize on the grand stage of Festival Hall.
