Father arrested after shooting into room with wife, daughter

Greene County deputies and a Georgia State Patrol SWAT team successfully resolved a tense domestic situation on Memorial Day and arrested a husband who had fired shots into a room occupied by his wife and daughter.

Michael Swords, 48, of Greensboro was arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated assault after the incident was resolved.

According to reports, Sgt. Joshua Wilson was contacted by Greene County Dispatch who said a 911 call had been received about a domestic dispute with shots fired at 1181 Parker Lane.

Dispatch also advised Wilson that Swords was still inside the home with his 16-year-old son and that the father had multiple guns in his possession.

The report says Wilson and Sgt. Brandi Wilson were the first two units on the scene, followed by Deputy Philipp von Hanstein.

Joshua Wilson asked von Hanstein to secure the safety of the wife and children, who had moved away from the home to the roadside by then. Lt.

Paquette arrived and had deputies stage around the home to secure the area to prevent Swords from trying to flee into the woods. Paquette used a PA system to try and make contact with Swords without success. Paquette then called for assistance from the Georgia State Patrol SWAT team.

Tanya Swords told deputies that her husband had been drinking all day and that he became irate and angry at her.

She said as they were arguing and fussing, he went back to his room, and she heard the sound of a gun being racked. When she realized her husband had armed himself, she ran with her daughter into a room and locked the door, according to the report.

She said he tried to force his way into the room, but she would not open the door. Then he began to shoot into the room. Tanya Swords told deputies she thought he shot into the room at least twice but was uncertain.

She also said she and her 14-year-old daughter were on the other side of the door when her husband fired, indicating that she believed he was trying to kill her and could have shot or killed his daughter.

At that point, the son got into a struggle with the father to try and keep him from harming his mother and sister, and eventually, Michael fell down onto the ground, the report said.

GSP SWAT arrived on the scene and attempted to make contact with Swords without success, ultimately they made entry into the home and arrested Swords without incident. He was then turned over to Greene County deputies and taken to jail.

Once the home was secured, the scene was turned over to investigators.
