A sunny spring day dawned on April 22 with a splash of colors in front of The Plaza Arts Center by the reviving of nature and the people gathered to celebrate May Day.
Executive Director of The Plaza Arts Center Susan Usry stated that May Day is one of three annual community events The Plaza organizes. This is the second year of the May Day celebration in Eatonton, and it was another big success.
“We wanted to give back to the community that supports us at The Plaza and welcome spring,” Usry said.
People of all ages could engage in various arts and crafts, try out the Maypole Dance led by The Arts Barn, have their faces painted, or enjoy a snack of popcorn and shaved ice.
According to Usry, May Day is also an extension of the After-School Art Program and a free opportunity for parents to experience art with their kids
. In addition to the instructors doing the After-School Art Program, volunteers for this event included youth from Putnam County Middle and High School Beta Club and Liberty United Methodist Church.
“We hope to do it next year and have already set the date for it,” Usry said. “We thank everyone who came out to celebrate with us.”
