Georgia-Pacific donates water tank to Shady Dale

MORGAN COUNTY

Georgia-Pacific has donated a new 50,000-gallon water tank from a GP former operating facility to the town of Shady Dale, helping address a longstanding need for additional municipal water storage.

For decades, Shady Dale has relied on a single 63,000-gallon tank with no backup storage. Maintenance on the existing tank has required careful coordination to protect uninterrupted water service for residents. Once placed into service, the additional tank will give the town greater flexibility to perform routine maintenance while strengthening the reliability and resilience of its water system. The donation reflects Georgia-Pacific’s principles by putting an available resource to productive use and creating long-term value for the community.

“This donation is awesome for our community,” said Larry Champion, Mayor of Shady Dale, “For many years, maintaining our only storage tank and keeping the water flowing to our residents was always a balancing act. This tank will help us serve the community more reliably for years to come.”

“We are pleased that an unused asset can be repurposed to create meaningful value for Shady Dale,” said Sam Kelly, local Georgia-Pacific site representative. “Repurposing an asset such as this reenforces the partnership between Georgia-Pacific and the communities in which we operate and where our employees live.”

The donation expands Shady Dale’s available water-storage capacity to 113,000 gallons and provides the backup needed to reduce service risks during future maintenance. The town will oversee the remaining work required to prepare the tank for municipal use.
