Ribbons of Care tourney benefits cancer research

GREENE COUNTY

The 16th edition of the Ribbons of Care Golf Tournament took place Oct. 8 at Harbor Club, where raffle tickets were also sold in the lower level of the club house.

Registration began at 8 a.m. and at 9 a.m. everyone gathered in front of the flagpole for announcements and pictures before a shotgun start of golf at a half hour later. Lunch was served at 2 p.m., following the presentation of prize winners after more than 100 women golfers competed this year.

This prominent annual event raises vital funds for Cancer Support Services, an organization dedicated to providing financial assistance, resources, and emotional support to men, women, and young cancer fighters navigating life-threatening diagnoses. This year, more than $26,000 was raised for the cause.

Originally started as a breast cancer research fundraiser, “Ribbons of Care” now is designed to support all cancer research, with participants and donors wearing various colored ribbons to represent varied cancer causes.

In thanking the volunteers, golfers, sponsors, and those who donated generously, Ribbons of Care event organizer Penny Davis wrote: “You made the week of the event go so smooth. So many of you just knew what to do and did it and I didn’t have to even think about it.

“New volunteers have fit right in and it was so appreciated. I could list all the many things each of you did but you know what you did. I want you to know I appreciated every little and big thing and every minute of your time.

“Please thank the husbands that jumped in as well. We really are a village and we made a great team.”
