After a Greene County jury returned a verdict of guilty Sept. 23, Superior Court Judge Brenda H. Trammell sentenced Damian Andre Wright to 99 years on charges of cruelty to children in the first degree, cruelty to children in the second degree and three counts of aggravated battery. Wright will serve the first 25 years in prison and the remainder on probation.
According to the Ocmulgee District Attorney’s Office, Wright physically abused a nonverbal 3-year-old child with developmental disabilities, causing fractures to the child’s spine and both arms during an incident in September 2024.
Following the conviction, Wright entered a guilty plea to two more counts of aggravated assault in a separate case in which Wright attempted to run over the mother and grandmother of his infant son.
Wright received a sentence of 20 years in prison for this offense to run concurrent with his sentence on the child abuse case.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Blayne May and Devin Sinclair, Victim Advocate Jessica Duvall and Legal Assistant Kristina Brewer. The investigation was handled by the Greensboro Police Department.
District Attorney T. Wright Barksdale expressed his appreciation to school faculty members and medical professionals who testified in this case and helped bring justice to the victim.
