Putnam County Elementary School (PCES) hosted Thanksgiving lunches for its students and their parents on Nov.15-17, with about 600 parents attending the three-day event.
Each day, one grade, third through fifth, had the cafeteria at its disposal. Grades that were not served lunch at the cafeteria on that day received bagged lunches to enjoy in their classrooms.
"It's been phenomenal," PCES Principal Scott Sauls said of the response from parents, students and staff. "This is the first year we've done it since 2019. It's an opportunity for parents to share a meal with their children. After everything we'd been through – the times of people going home, kids at home, not allowing the people in the building because of COVID - it felt like a good opportunity to be able to share this time with the families of our students.”
The menu included a traditional turkey with dressing, gravy, green beans, sweet potato casserole, and cranberry sauce.
“We want the support of our parents, and they are very supportive of our school,” Sauls added. “Besides that, they enjoyed filling up their bellies with good food. This is delicious.”
