‘Socialistic giveaways’ bring irony

During the week of September 11th, a letter by G. Giesler sowed more partisan division by echoing Republican talking points that frame Democrats as terrible people bent on ruining the country. A few of those claims warrant clear perspective: Yes, Democrats dislike Donald Trump. His favorability rating among all voters is currently lower than the volume of oil moving through the Strait of Hormuz.

Democrats do not want open borders. What they want is an end to masked agents in rental cars targeting men, women, and children on our streets. Do Democrats want criminal immigrants (or any other criminal, for that matter) running rampant? Obviously not; criminals do not ask your political affiliation before committing a crime.

Labeling Democratic policies as socialistic giveaways is ironic following Trump’s proposed $5,000 dividend for every adult U.S. citizen (on the condition that Republicans retain control of the House and Senate in the upcoming midterms). Paid for by whom? For that matter, has anyone actually received the $2,000 tariff checks he promised throughout 2025, or their DOGE stimulus check?

Democrats want accountability: Starting an Iranian War after previously declaring Iran’s nuclear program was completely obliterated. Spending billions on a ballroom, wasting funds on the Reflecting Pool, and gaudying up the White House. Ignoring a skyrocketing $40 trillion national deficit. Leaving U.S. troops marooned on the USS Lincoln without proper supplies. Depleting national armaments. Picking fights with Canada.

At this moment, in this upcoming election, voting blue is not voting out your core beliefs. It’s voting in accountability.
