George Clifton “Cliff” Manus Sr.

George Clifton “Cliff” Manus, Sr., age 89, of Eatonton, GA passed away September 24, 2022 at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Athens, Ga. He was born in Atlanta to the late Charles and Julia Manus and grew up in East Point graduating from Russell High School in 1951. He is preceded in death by his parents, six siblings, JC, Joel, Otis “Buzzy”, Evelyn, Charles and Willie Mae and his former spouse, Gwendolyn Simpson Manus (mother of children) and their Son, Mark Adam Manus, Sr., and his special little cat, named Kitty, whom he dearly loved.

He was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Army in Okinawa as a Cryptographer. After returning home, he started in the world of business with Lockheed Aircraft as a draftsman and then took an office position with the Central of Georgia railroad. He joined Owens-Illinois Glass Company in Hapeville in 1957 in Accounting. He worked there for 35 years in various management positions, retiring in 1992 as the Plant Purchasing Manager. He then became a consultant for twenty three years with Anchor Glass working until he was 82. He moved from Peachtree City to Eatonton twenty- five years ago after marrying Joann “Jody” Davis. They lived on Lake Oconee. He loved the lake life and really enjoyed working in their large yard planting all sorts of trees, bushes and flowers. Cliff was an active member of Liberty Chapel in Eatonton. He loved to tell stories and enjoyed his morning coffee with his friends at BP and McDonald’s. Playing poker and golf were his favorite pastimes and he traveled to England many times on golf trips and competitions.

He is survived by his wife, Jody and daughter, Jan Kinn of Decatur, Son, Cliff Manus, Jr. (Sheryl) of Helena, Alabama. seven grandchildren Nathan (Angelina), Erin (Patrick), Emma (Brooks), Mark Adam Jr., Jessica, Jennifer and Jacob (Kayla), and eleven great grandchildren Emory, Brinley, Nora, Harper, Levi, Salem, Bentlee, Lexi, Avery, Cody and Caden. And numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
