Madison, Greensboro police team up to catch suspect in stolen truck

The Madison and Greensboro Police Departments teamed up to put an end to a pursuit that began on West Broad Street during the early morning hours of Sept. 30.

According to the GPD, officers were patrolling West Broad Street when they spotted a car traveling without headlights on.

An officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, but once the officer exited his vehicle to speak with the man, he sped toward South Main Street and turned onto I-20 West reaching speeds of 118 mph.

The Madison Police Department and the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office were notified, and Madison police officers Tyler Finch and Corporal Andy Koth were dispatched to I-20 where they deployed stop sticks.

The stop sticks made contact with the vehicle’s tires and disabled them. The vehicle left the interstate at Exit 113 and turned right on Hwy 83 toward Madison.

The vehicle then turned right on Atlanta Highway where it came to a controlled, low-speed stop. The vehicle turned out to be stolen out of Richmond County.

The driver, who was identified as Robert Thomas Haya, 35, was arrested and transported back to Greene County jail where he was booked on the charges of no headlights, affixing license plates with the purpose of concealing the identity of a vehicle, driving without a license, felony fleeing and eluding, theft by receiving stolen property, and reckless driving.
