The Madison Police Department says it is strengthening its efforts to promote traffic safety citywide with a coordinated initiative focused on making city streets safer for motorists, pedestrians, and the community.
MPD is working in conjunction with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and Regional Traffic Enforcement Networks to support traffic safety initiatives where unsafe driving behaviors or recurring traffic issues have been identified.
MPD will also continue its collaborative efforts with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol.
“Traffic enforcement is ultimately about safety,” said Madison Police Chief Roy Whitehead. “Our goal is not simply to write citations. We want to identify the areas and driving behaviors creating concerns for our citizens and use our resources effectively to address them. By listening to our community and working alongside our law enforcement partners, we can make Madison’s streets safer for everyone.”
MPD Sgt. Stacy Eaton, who has served the community since 2009, will coordinate the initiative. His years of service and familiarity with Madison’s streets, traffic patterns, and community concerns provide valuable experience as MPD works to identify areas of concern and coordinate focused enforcement efforts.
As part of the initiative, Sgt. Eaton will identify and assign monthly traffic safety initiatives for officers and shifts, concentrating resources on specific concerns and problem areas.
Initiatives may be developed in response to observed traffic patterns, identified safety concerns, citizen complaints, and other information.
Results will be reviewed to evaluate effectiveness and determine whether additional or adjusted enforcement efforts are needed.
Residents and motorists with concerns about traffic safety, recurring issues, or specific areas within the city are encouraged to contact Sgt. Eaton directly at seaton@madisonpd. net.
Concerns and inquiries will be reviewed and evaluated to determine the appropriate response and resource allocation. Through targeted enforcement, community input, ongoing evaluation, and partnerships with local and state law enforcement agencies, the MPD remains committed to improving traffic safety.
The Madison Police Department encourages everyone traveling to slow down, stay alert, obey traffic laws, and help keep the community safe.
