Ferst Readers of Greene and Putnam Counties join each fall to raise money to provide free books to local, young children. Their goal for this year’s fall fundraiser is to raise $18,000 to help 500 local kids progress in reading.
For the first time in two years, the 2022 Ferst Readers Fall Fundraiser can offer raffle prizes. Tickets cost $36, but Ferst officials said that each ticket provides the donor “2 Ways 2 Win.”
The first win is giving 12 new age-appropriate books to a child (one per month for a year), Ferst Readers said. The second win is the purchaser’s chance to win one of the many prizes donated by: Z. Grant Designs; Bend the Trend; Broad Street and Main Antiques and Home Décor; Camille & Company; Madeleine Page Footwear & Apparel; Mary Kay Cosmetics; Olive + Hive; Paper Soiree; Ripe Thing Market & Eatery; Brickhouse Grub & Pub; Dueling Piano Bar (Macon); El Sitio Mexican Restaurant; Fillet Steak & Seafood; Georgia Butts; Lake Oconee Bistro; Pedro’s Mexican Grill & Cantina; P.J.s Coffee; The Rabbit Hole; and Silver Moon, among others. As a publicly funded non-profit organization, Ferst Readers promotes the development of early childhood literacy skills in children from birth to age 5, especially those who need the most help with getting access to age-appropriate books for their homes.
Tickets can be purchased from any Ferst community action team member or from Cathy Mize at 478-454-7150, Carol Kuhn at 443-867-2012, or Dianna O’Keefe at 706-467-3765.
For those who may wish to donate, but not participate in the raffle, online donations are accepted at GreenePutnamAdoptaReader.com.
