A Milledgeville man was arrested July 27 on multiple charges after allegedly kicking a pregnant woman in the stomach.
Malik Ja’ron Worthen, 2215 Leo Court, has been charged with aggravated assault, cruelty to children and theft by taking.
According to reports, Greene County Deputy Carter Cadwallader was dispatched to a Lewis Road address regarding an open 911 line in which contact had been lost with the caller. Dispatchers said a male and female could be heard arguing.
When Cadwallader arrived, the front door of the residence was open. Fearing someone could be injured inside, Cadwallader and Deputy James Sokol entered the home but found no one inside.
As the deputies were preparing to leave, dispatch informed them that a female caller had returned to the line. She told authorities she had been involved in a physical altercation with the father of her children and was at an address on Bowden Pond Road.
Cadwallader went to the Bowden Pond Road address and met with the woman, who alleged that Worthen had “jumped on her” at the Lewis Road residence.
According to the report, the woman was visibly distraught and crying. She told deputies she had been on her front porch attempting to load string into a weed eater when an altercation began between her and Worthen.
She said she went inside toward her bedroom and attempted to close the bedroom door when a struggle ensued. According to the report, Worthen grabbed her by the throat and pushed her against a wall.
The woman said she then tripped over one of the car seats on the floor, at which point Worthen began to “football” kick her in the stomach, according to the report. She told deputies she was five months pregnant.
The woman also said her 2-year-old daughter and 8-month-old infant were in the room during the alleged assault.
According to the report, Worthen then allegedly attempted to run the woman over with his vehicle in the front yard. She told deputies she responded by using a jack handle to shatter the rear window of Worthen’s vehicle.
Deputy Skillman observed a red mark on the right side of the woman’s neck that appeared consistent with a thumb imprint, according to the report.
License plate reader databases located a vehicle registered to Worthen in the Milledgeville area. A BOLO alert was subsequently issued for the vehicle.
The Milledgeville Police Department apprehended Worthen later that night.
The woman was advised how to obtain a family violence protection order and was provided with appropriate resources and contact information.
