Issue Based Comprehensive Plan approved by Morgan BOC

During their 5 p.m. meeting last Tuesday, the Morgan County Board of Commissioners reviewed and discussed multiple topics at length, the most notable being the county’s Issue-Based Comprehensive Plan.

According to its introduction, the plan identifies issues that residents and business owners in the county deem important.

Residents of the cities of Bostwick, Rutledge and Buckhead all voiced their hopes and concerns during “an extensive public involvement process” that was required upon the plan’s vote.

District 5 Commissioner Bill Kurtz, who was on the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee, acknowledged how much went into the creation of this roughly 290-page document before it was unanimously approved.

“A lot of time was spent between Chuck [Jarrell], Tara [Cooner] and the rest of the committee members and of the Northeast Georgia Regional Commission,” Kurtz said. “They really dug into the thing. They solicited questions from people within the county, and with all the information that was assembled, is now put into this well put together document.”

The public input sessions used to help create this plan stemmed all the way from Nov. 3, 2021, to most recently May 19, 2022.

Through residential input, the committee included multiple community goals they want to work towards in the near future.

Sustainable economic growth, responsible public investment in the future and retaining and promoting a culture of civic involvement were some of the goals among many that members of Morgan County communities identified as important.

Ultimately, the Issue-Based Comprehensive Plan is a document that helps the county government maintain constant progress toward the county’s self-identified goals.
