The Madison Artists Guild (MAG) recently announced it will present a special exhibition of paintings by former Madison resident Trish Jones, a self-taught artist known for a style that feels both familiar and fresh.
Jones’ acrylic paintings are typically created “alla prima,” a direct, wet-on-wet painting technique in which an artwork is completed in a single session, with brushwork on cradled wooden panels.
Her earliest works began as folk art pieces for her own home, and that spirit continues to shape Jones’ distinctive visual language. Rooted in rural Southern life, her paintings celebrate small towns, natural beauty, memory and place with warmth, color and an unmistakable sense of story.
A lifelong Southerner, Jones holds a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. She began painting in her spare time while working as a consultant in the construction industry.
Jones began creating daily in 2018 and now sells her work through regional juried fine art shows, galleries, her website, and social media.
She has exhibited across the Southeast, including solo and featured exhibitions in Georgia and Florida, and her work has been recognized in multiple juried shows. Her art can be found in galleries and shops in Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina and Florida, as well as through online platforms.
The exhibition featuring Jones’ work opens with a public reception from 6-8 p.m. July 17 and will remain on display through Aug. 27 at MAGallery, 125 W. Jefferson St., Madison.
The opening reception is free and open to the public and will include live music and light refreshments. Zant Medical Team sponsors the exhibition.
