The Georgia Writers Museum has announced that award-winning, bestselling author Robert Gwaltney will be its Meet the Author presenter in August.
According to Southern Literary Review: “Gwaltney undoubtedly has one of the most stunning imaginations of any author now writing.
Winner of the Georgia Writer of the Year Award for First Novel – he brings his second novel, Sing Down the Moon, taking readers into a mythical barrier island off the coast of Georgia and into the troubled lives of a generation of women strangely cursed.”
Filled with lush, vivid descriptions and wild plot twists, Sing Down the Moon follows 16-year-old Leontyne Skye on her quest to escape the devastating heritage of her mother on the Georgia barrier island known as Good Hope.
Right off, too, Gwaltney teases his readers with the mystery of “Tribulation Day,” and the accident that cost Leontyne her right hand and a partial loss of memory.
A graduate of Florida State University, Gwaltney serves as vice president of Easter Seals North Georgia by day, a nonprofit organization that strengthens children and their families at their most critical times of development. His literary work has appeared in Southbound Magazine, Southern Literary Review, The Blue Mountain Review, and at The Dead Mule School of Southern Literature (deadmule. com).
In 2022, Gwaltney was the recipient of the Pat Conroy Writer’s Residency, and he recently received the Somerset Award for Literacy and Contemporary Fiction.
Gwaltney is also a contributing writer for Well Read Magazine and a host of the podcast “Inside Voices.” His debut novel, The Cicada Tree, won the 2023 Georgia Author of the Year Award for First Novel.
Gwaltney will present and discuss Sing Down the Moon at GWM on Tuesday, Aug. 4. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a 7 p.m. program start.
Tickets are $45 each or $40 each when purchasing two or more, and each ticket also includes a gourmet meal prepared by Chef Brent.
