According to the Expedition: Bigfoot Facebook page, a museum devoted to the creature in North Georgia, there has recently been a Sasquatch sighting in Morgan County.
And no, the page isn’t talking about the rusty, metal Sasquatch display in the pasture at the corner adjacent to Sandy Creek Rd. and U.S. Highway 441.
“Just spoke with a man in Morgan Co., Ga. He saw something he cannot explain, yesterday morning (6/21/22),” the post read. “He was driving very close to his house at 7:00 a.m. on his way to take the household garbage to the small dump station, only two miles from his house. It was very early, but plenty of light to see what crossed in front of him. He had just made a curve, when 50 yards ahead of him, on the left side of the road, was a tall, hairy, upright figure entering the wood line. He described it as much bigger than him, approx 7-7 1/2 feet tall, on two feet, covered in reddish-brown hair. It was stooped over, and he did not see the head, as it was already in the wood line. But he saw the rest, as it walked into the woods. He said he never believed in these creatures, but now, cannot explain what else it could have been.”
The Lake Oconee News reached out to the museum via telephone and email for information about the alleged sighting, although it received no response.
The newspaper also reached out to Georgia DNR Region 3 Corporal Ricky Boles, who represents Morgan County. He was unavailable for immediate comment.
Expedition: Bigfoot is located in Blue Ridge, Georgia, and opened in 2016. The museum is devoted to the existence of Bigfoot/Sasquatch, “either from personal experience and encounters or from witness testimony and evidence.”
According to several comments under the original Bigfoot: Expedition Facebook post, a few individuals claimed to have shared a similar experience.
Former Morgan County resident Jimmy Delker claims he saw them as far back as the mid-70s.
“I lived in Morgan County during my teenage years in the mid-'70s,” Delker said. “I actually saw one chasing four to five deer from the woods into a cow pasture. When it realized it couldn't catch them, it stopped dead in its tracks looked around, and walked back in the woods.”
Angela Stewart said her family has experienced them around Rutledge.
“Growing up inside Hard Labor Creek State Park…my brother and a friend saw one in the late 70s,” she said. “I think they pass through there every spring and fall.”
Kyle Cartieri, a current resident of Augusta, allegedly came across a strange creature in McDuffie County, which is about an hour away from Madison.
“Last fall, I came face to face with a nine-foot ft tall Bigfoot looking at me through a window in my home,” Cartier said in his comment. “It had large, wide-set almond-shaped eyes. There have been some loud bangs on the side of our house as well as on our neighbor’s houses. Also, it left an ‘X’ made of sticks at the corner of our home. There aren’t a lot of sightings reported in this part of Georgia so I was definitely caught by surprise and a little unsettled.”
Despite so many claims, there could be other explanations for the sightings. Recently, there have been confirmed reports of Black bears moving through the area.
There was a one spotted on the Athens-Clarke/Oconee County line, just south of Athens Academy off Hwy 441, about three weeks ago. Also, the Greene County Board of Commissioners’ Facebook page shared a post on Sunday, June 20, about a sighting on Carey Station Rd. near the intersection of Askew Rd.
The Georgia DNR recently told the WRDW news station in Augusta that Black bear sightings around the months of May and June are common in the state.
