Runoff elections are upon us

Early voting for runoff elections began June 13 with June 21 as the scheduled day for the election.

Lake Country voters have much to help resolve, but some things will have to wait for the fall.

The U.S. Senate race is settled with incumbent Democrat Rafael Warnock running against Republican nominee Herschel Walker.

Eight Republicans and five Democrats went after the District 10 seat in the U.S. House of Representatives currently occupied by Jody Hice.

Not surprisingly, runoffs will be held to decide who will get the nomination for both parties.

Michael Collins received 25.62 percent of the vote in the primary and will face Trump-endorsed Vernon Jones in the runoff. Jones polled 21.54 percent in the primary.

Democrat Tabitha Johnson-Greene was the favorite among democrats in the primary but, with only 41.96 percent of the vote, now faces a runoff with Phyllis Hatcher, who received only 18.88 percent in the primary.

Incumbent Brian Kemp received nearly four times as many votes in as challenger David Perdue in the Republican primary, setting up a rematch with Stacey Abrams in the November election.

Burt Jones squeaked by to win the Republican primary for Lt. Governor, but Democrats will choose between Kwanza Hall and Charlie Bailey in the runoff.

Similarly, Republican incumbent Brad Raffensberger won the Republican primary outright with 52.37 percent of the vote, and Democrats will choose either Bee Nguyen, who received 44.33 percent in the primary, or Dee Dawkins-Haigler, who had 18.66 percent.

The Attorney General post will be decided in November with Republican Chris Carr and Democrat Jennifer Jordan clear winners in the primary.

Bruce Thompson won the Republican race for Commissioner of Labor easily, but Democrats will now choose between William Boddie Jr. (27.67 percent in the primary and Nicole Horn (25.12 percent).

No runoffs are upcoming for the Commissioner of Insurance, Commissioner of Agriculture, State School Superintendent or the Public Service Commission.

Also of interest to Lake Country voters, the District 17 and District 24 seats in the Georgia Senate and the District 114 and District 124 seats in Georgia House will be decided in November.

Aug. 22 represents the last day to apply for an absentee ballot for the Nov. 7 General Election and you must be registered by Oct. 11 to vote in it. Early voting will begin on Oct. 17 and conclude on Nov. 4.

If a runoff is needed that election will be held Dec. 6.
