Two Augusta men were arrested on multiple drug charges following a traffic stop in Greene County on May 25.
Rahim Jerome Brown, 27, and Christian Wesley Sorrells, 27, have been charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, trafficking of fentanyl, trafficking in cocaine and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
Lt. Patrick Paquette observed a gray Chrysler 300 with darkly tinted windows traveling eastbound on I-20.
Paquette pulled the vehicle over near milepost 133 and approached the vehicle on the passenger side.
When Paquette made contact with the occupants, he immediately smelled the overwhelming odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to his report.
Paquette checked the window tint on the front passenger side window and it registered 28 percent.
He explained to the driver, Christian Wesley Sorrells, the tint had to be 32 percent or higher to be legal. Sorrell stated he had taken his grandfather to the VA in Atlanta because he has cancer.
When Paquette asked Mr. Sorrells how much marijuana was in the vehicle, he reached in his pant pocket and pulled out a bag of marijuana, claiming no more marijuana was in the car.
Paquette made contact with the passenger later identified as Brown, who said he did not have any identification on him.
Paquette asked Brown to step out of the car and he complied.
Paquette began a search of the vehicle and found a plastic container that contained several more plastic containers that contained marijuana under the passenger seat.
Inside a book bag laying on the passenger side rear floorboard of the vehicle, Paquette found a plastic bag containing vape cartridges with THC oil.
Also found in the plastic bag was a “plastic M&M container that had a false storage area inside of it. Inside the false storage area, Paque tte located a plastic bag that contained methamphetamine, a plastic bag that contained a large quantity of cocaine in the form of crack, and a plastic bag that contained a substance that field-tested positive for fentanyl.”
There were also several packages and containers in the book bag that contained marijuana.
In a drawstring style bag in the passenger side floorboard area, Paquette located a large rubber-banded bundle of cash ($1,361).
Brown stated the money belonged to him, but nothing else in the bag belonged to him. Both subjects were placed under arrest and transported to the jail by Deputy William Yourchak.
